Al Rusail Independent Power
We acquired a 47.5 percent co-controlling stake in Al Rusail Power Company, which owns and operates an existing power facility at Al Rusail in the Sultanate of Oman, in 2006.
This independent open cycle, natural gas-fired power generation facility has a capacity of 668MW and consists of eight Frame 9E, GE-designed gas turbines. The power generated is sold to OPWP, the state-owned Omani utility provider, under a long-term power purchase agreement.
Since our acquisition of the facility, there has been a marked improvement in the plant’s supply, with 99 percent reliability in 2009.
