Barka 2 Independent Water & Power Project
Barka 2, in Barka, Oman, is a landmark power generation and desalination plant in which we own a co-controlling stake of 47.5 percent. As co-sponsors of the US$ 600 million project bid, alongside prominent French industry leader GDF–Suez, we were responsible for the development, financing, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the greenfield 678MW natural combined cycle gas-fired power generation and seawater desalination facility.
We continue to play an active role in the development of this state-of-the art power plant, where production output is guaranteed by long term government-backed take-or-pay arrangements.
Commercial operation for power and water was achieved in November 2009.
