Sowwah Island
As a major strategic component of the Government’s Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, Sowwah Island is the heart of Abu Dhabi’s new Central Business District.
Conveniently located adjacent at the junction of Al Reem Island, Mina Zayed and the existing downtown area of Abu Dhabi Island, the development is modeled on the world’s leading mixed-use business districts, such as mid-town Manhattan, and is being designed to the highest international standards of quality, functionality and sustainability.
Featuring a dynamic combination of premium commercial and residential clusters, luxury business hotels, comprehensive retail, medical facilities, public amenities, landscaped parks and pedestrian-friendly open spaces, the island will have a daily working population of 75,000 and will be home to 30,000 residents.
Its central location and extensive transport infrastructure, including 13 bridges, a mass transit system featuring metro and light rail, and a pedestrian-friendly road network that integrates with Abu Dhabi’s existing street grid, will ensure easy and efficient access.
The first phase of development is now well advanced. Key developments in phase one include the Grade ‘A’ commercial development, Sowwah Square and new headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange; Rosewood Abu Dhabi; Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Sowwah Island; Viceroy Abu Dhabi and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
