Masdar City is an emerging global clean-technology cluster that places its resident companies in the heart of the global renewable energy industry.
Housing thousands of residents and hundreds of businesses at full build out, the low-carbon, low-waste sustainable urban development is being designed and operated to provide the highest quality of life with the lowest environmental footprint – all in a manner that is commercially viable.
But only if sustainability is economically feasible will enough communities be able to implement the technologies and systems needed to support a truly sustainable city and do so on a big enough scale to achieve meaningful progress in this realm.
As with most dynamic technology clusters, the city has a top-notch research university that is a source for innovation, technologies, R&D and highly skilled graduates. Other major partners include Siemens, GE, Schneider Electric, BASF; the Swiss Village Association; the Korea Technopark Association, and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
